Eco-Plugging Tree Stumps Fenny Stratford

The typical procedure that is used for removing stumps by most Fenny Stratford tree surgeons is stump grinding. However, "eco-plugging" has become increasingly more popular as an easier and more cost-effective alternative to this process. It is not merely the fact that eco-plugging is cheaper that makes it an appealing method for stump removal, but also that it can be utilised in hard-to-reach and awkward locations which may be hard to get to with bulky stump grinding machinery.

Eco-plugging is an incredibly effective treatment for killing tree stumps and has no effect on any nearby vegetation and trees. Eco-plugs can be utilised at any time of the year and in all weather conditions, and they destroy the entire root system of the tree stump. Containing a kind of crystalline glyphosate herbicide which is suitable for treating a wide array of trees, eco-plugs give good results in 95% to 100% of cases. Removal of Tree Stumps Fenny Stratford

If you are in a situation where you've got to have a large tree removed from your garden in Fenny Stratford, you're probably going to be stuck with a tree stump, which also needs to be sorted out. Now, in some situations you might be happy enough to leave the tree stump in position and allow it to decay entirely naturally. However, stumps can attract harmful pests, be a trip hazard, and be an eyesore.

There are several techniques for removing a stump completely, but stump grinding or stump removal are the two primary choices. In the following paragraphs we'll be looking at the stump removal option rather than stump grinding.

There are three primary methods that you can use to get rid of a tree stump - you can use a chemical stump killer, you can burn it or you can dig it out by hand. If you're hoping to deal with a tree stump yourself, the use of any of these approaches may be feasible. If you're going to get a tree surgeon to undertake the job, they will generally favour the previously mentioned stump grinding approach, however a chemical removal treatment such as eco-plugging may also be suggested.

Burning a Tree Stump: Take care if you choose this approach to stump removal, because it can be quite dangerous and might contravene legislation in your area. It involves drilling a few holes into the tree stump and constantly filling and topping up the holes with vegetable oil over a period of several days. The tree stump is then heaped up with charcoal or logs and set alight. A fire such as this should not be left unattended, and must be monitored until safe to do so. When the fire has finally stopped burning, you need to make sure that it is fully extinguished and cooled down, after which you can dig out the stump debris and roots.

You'll find there are various other stump burning techniques, such as digging out underneath the stump and lighting a fire in the excavated space that's been made. There are of course a number of scenarios where stump burning is not suitable, such as when there are other trees, fences or buildings surrounding the stump being removed.

Chemical Stump Removers: A powerful chemical such as Resolva Xtra Tough Tree Stump Killer, Roundup Tree Stump Remover or Vitax SBK Stump Killer, will be required if you decide to go with the chemical treatment option. When utilising these products you should closely follow the manufacturer's instructions, as these chemicals can be very toxic. This isn't a short term resolution, and it can take several weeks for the stump to rot completely, after which time an axe and a spade can be used to chop it up and remove it.

Digging Out by Hand: The digging up of a tree stump by hand is a quite self-explanatory procedure, and involves digging out all the earth all around the stump, uncovering and cutting all the larger roots, and eventually freeing the tree stump so that it can be hoisted out. For the final lifting process you might find that you need to use some form of winch. This is really tough work and isn't for the faint-hearted or unfit.

Ash Dieback

First reported in the British Isles in 2021, ash dieback (Hymenoscyphus fraxineus) is a serious fungal disease that's expected to wipe out about 80% of the current ash tree stock, over the next few years. Ash dieback is going to have an enormous impact on our beloved countryside, contributing to the damage caused by the Dutch Elm Disease crisis.

Ash dieback has a particularly devastating effect on the native Fraxinus excelsior (common ash), British Fraxinus excelsior (common ash), although it actually affects all trees of the Fraxinus genus, with different degrees of tolerance to it. The fungus which causes the disease is named Hymenoscyphus fraxineus (H. fraxineus), and it originally came from Asia.

Rapidly spread by microscopic spores which can be blown for miles on the wind, ash dieback is prevalent in most regions of the UK with mortality rates of up to 85 percent.

Ash dieback strikes trees of any age and has the following symptoms:

  • New epicormic growth appearing from previously dormant buds (common in stressed trees).
  • Dark brown lesions form where limbs join the trunk, and the inner bark under the lesions looks brownish grey.
  • Leaves that develop dark patches during the summertime.
  • Foliage that wilts, turns black in colour and falls prematurely.
  • Shoots and leaves which are visibly dying during the summer.

Even ash trees which are able to fend off the disease, suffer sustained attacks year-on-year and eventually succumb and die. As it's an airborne disease there is no obvious method for stopping its spread, and no effective cure for ash dieback.

If you think a tree in your local area is contaminated with ash dieback, or you are concerned about a tree in your garden in Fenny Stratford, you should bring in a local tree surgeon to verify the diagnosis, and you could then send in a report to the "Tree Alert Service" provided by the Forestry Commission, although they are now only interested in hearing about cases in areas that were previously unaffected.

Trees of the genus Fraxinus are affected.

Tree surgeons in Fenny Stratford generally expect to receive a spike in emergency calls when there are high winds and gales, which is why many offer a 24/7 service to cater for this eventuality. In blustery weather there's an increased potential for branches snapping off and falling, and even possibly the risk of an entire tree toppling over. Avoidance is definitely preferable to having to deal with the aftermath, and common issues that can result from plummeting branches and tree limbs include splintered sheds, damaged fences, cracked greenhouses and busted garden furniture.

When large branches break of and drop onto railway tracks, roads and public footpaths, the local authorities in the Fenny Stratford area will also sometimes need emergency tree care services.

When a tree has lost some of it's larger branches it can become uneven or lopsided, with more branches and weight on one side. Tree Transplanting Fenny Stratford

Tree Transplanting Fenny Stratford (01908)

Excavating a mature tree and transplanting it in a new location may seem difficult, but with powerful, modern lifting equipment and tractor mounted spades, it has become a relatively simple undertaking. A specialist tree moving contractor in Fenny Stratford will be glad to move any trees you have on your land, or transplant fully developed trees for an instant aesthetic appeal.

If you haven't any choice but to transplant a tree in Fenny Stratford during the warmer seasons of spring and summer, you must minimise the stress of the move on the root-ball by comprehensively soaking the ground with water before any work is started. To raise a tree from the earth a tractor based mechanical tree spade is forced down into the dirt to encircle the root ball, before lifting the entire tree free. The uplifted tree is then ready to be moved to its new home for re-planting, or left in temporary storage until it's ready to be replanted.

A specialist tree transplanting company in Fenny Stratford will collaborate with the local authorities to make sure that local regulations and preservation orders are complied with at all stages of the tree transplantation procedure. Tree Surgery - Health and Safety

Tree Surgery Safety Fenny Stratford

The safety issue is one of the major concerns when you're doing tree surgery, since if carried out badly it can definitely be a dangerous and risky undertaking. If the so called tradespeople carrying out the project are inexperienced or incapable, there are a number of factors that may go amiss such as not using hearing or eye protection, failure to put on cut-proof (chainsaw-proof) apparel (especially trousers and safety boots), little fall protection, in the form of harnesses, ropes and platforms, inadequate head protection, falling timber and branches and not cordoning off the area to protect the public and vehicles. Owing to such inadequacies, most likely vulnerable are the tree itself, nearby structures, passers by, the property owners family, passing and stationary vehicles, the street facilities, garden outbuildings and fences, the groundsperson, the tree surgeon himself (up the tree).

Woodland Clearance Fenny Stratford

Woodland Clearance Fenny Stratford (MK2)

Woodland clearance in the Fenny Stratford area is a sophisticated process that can be influenced by several restrictions and regulations. A qualified tree surgeon contractor in Fenny Stratford can offer a comprehensive service that will abide by all covenants and laws on the land, and will also complete the work an eco-friendly manner.

A good tree surgeon will determine if there are any special planning permissions, ecological constraints or felling restrictions by conducting a full habitat survey and liaising with local authorities. Dutch Elm Disease

Devastating tree stocks and killing off tens of millons of precious elm trees all around the United Kingdom during the past 50 yrs or so, Dutch Elm Disease (Ophiostoma novo-ulmi) isn't so prevalent now, as it previously was. Accidentally imported into the UK from North America (Canada) in the 1960s, DED (Dutch Elm Disease) is spread by the elm bark beetle (particularly the Scolytus genus) and caused by a fungus called Ophiostoma novo-ulmi.

Through the nationwide movement of elm products such as saplings, mulching bark, crates, and firewood logs with the bark still attached, it was quickly spread through the United Kingdom after first arriving. Believed to have originated in Asia (possibly Japan), Dutch Elm Disease didn't only affect trees in Great Britain, but also destroyed the stocks of elms in continental Europe and North America.

Normally first appearing in early summer, the main signs of Dutch Elm Disease disease are:

  • Clusters of leaves turning yellow and wilting.
  • Twigs turning into a "shepherd's crook".
  • New shoots that die back from the tips.
  • Dark spots or rings in the cross-section of twigs.

As there are now hardly any substantial elms in the UK countryside, the elm bark beetle's favourite habitat has been largely decimated, which has resulted in a slowing down of DED. The propagation of young elms that are so far resistant to DED is a continuing project.

You can speak to your local tree surgeon for advice, if you have suspicions you may have infected elm trees on your property in Fenny Stratford, or you can ask for a diagnosis from the THDAS (Tree Health Diagnostic & Advisory Service), for which there is a charge.

Trees affected - Ulmus and Zelkova.

Agent of spread - small beetles of the Scolytus and Hylorgopinus genera.

Cause - fungi Ophiostoma Novo-Ulmi and Ophiostoma Ulmi.

Stump Grinding

Stump Grinding Fenny Stratford

It's important to it is best to hire a company having the appropriate knowhow and tools, when you need to get specialist services such as stump grinding done in Fenny Stratford. Experienced tree surgeons can grind down every bit of stump to twelve inches or more below ground level. Having the use of the right machinery means that your tree surgeon will be able to extract stubborn stumps and roots fairly close to walls and buildings while avoiding damage. This tailor-made stump grinding apparatus is so adaptable that it can even remove stumps that are located in passageways, alleys and similarly inaccessible places. If you're clearing away a big tree the stump left over can be really substantial and regardless of what you are intending to use the space for afterwards, the chances are the tree stump will have to be removed far below surface level.

Protecting Trees in Winter

While the winter climate is rarely severe enough to justify protecting your shrubs and trees, it's definitely worth considering as a precaution. In fact, even shrubs, plants and trees that we usually consider to be hardy, will benefit from a bit of added protection in the cooler winter season.

High winds and storms can cause the biggest problems when trees are involved, and although most of your trees will have shed all their leaves come winter, they could still be susceptible in extreme conditions. If the weather in Fenny Stratford has been windy, and a tree in your garden looks to be damaged or in danger of falling, it's advisable to bring in a tree surgeon to check whether any remedial action is needed. You can also have issues with trees due to heavy snowfall, so when this type of weather is anticipated, keep an eye open for potential damage. Protection from ice and frost might be required for some shrubs and trees (particularly freshly planted ones), and a thick covering of mulch round their bases will help keep their roots from freezing, and allow them to absorb much needed moisture.

Invasive Tree Roots Fenny Stratford

Invasive Tree Roots Fenny Stratford Buckinghamshire

When they are growing too near to your dwelling in Fenny Stratford, some larger trees have really invasive roots, and can be troublesome. Damaged foundations, blocked drains and cracked patios, are among the most common problems that you may come across. Extremely invasive roots are found in tree species like willows, sycamores, maples and elms.

If you're planting new trees, make certain that they're positioned sufficiently far from your house, patios, paths and your sewerage system, so that they will not lead to problems in the future. You should contact a tree surgeon in Fenny Stratford, to see what can be done, if existing trees are growing too close to your house and are leading to some of these problems.

This isn't really the type of task you should attempt to do by yourself, and simply cutting through the offending roots could kill off the tree or significantly threaten it's overall health. To survive successfully, a tree will still need to get ample food and water, and a competent arborist in Fenny Stratford will know precisely which roots should be left in place, and which roots can be safely cut back.

Structural issues in subterranean drainage systems are regularly caused by shrub and tree roots, because a consistent source of nutrients and moisture is present in such an environment. Blockages and joint failure can arise when a drainage system's joints are breached by small roots, which can eventually grow into huge root balls when they're established. To eradicate the offending tree roots, high quality root removal services will be offered by some Fenny Stratford tree surgeons, who will use mechanical equipment, high pressure jetting or manual rodding. You should also be able to obtain root removal services in Simpson, Green End, Caldecotte, Drayton Parslow, Stoke Hammond, Soulbury, Great Brickhill, Hollingdon, Milton Keynes, Little Brickhill, Bletchley, Water Eaton, and and of course in Fenny Stratford.

Cable Bracing Trees Fenny Stratford

In certain circumstances where a tree shows signs of damage, decay, or is a risk to nearby property or persons, a procedure called cable bracing will sometimes be used to support the tree. When older or specimen trees in Fenny Stratford are concerned, cable bracing is used where it is unsatisfactory to fell a tree or cut out large sections that are unstable.

A cable bracing set-up can be employed for adding support to poor joints, weak tree limbs and V-shaped forks. Executing different forms of bracing work, an experienced tree care specialist will be equipped to use cables and rods to help mitigate structural stress, and ideally prolong the lifespan of valuable trees in Fenny Stratford.

Cable bracing has the objective of offering a shock-absorbing and flexible means of support that is non-invasive and doesn't cause additional damage to the tree by drilling and bolting the branches. A comprehensive risk risk assessment, to ensure the safety of the tree and nearby areas, must be undertaken before the start of any tree cable bracing work in Fenny Stratford.

Preventing Storm Damage

Of all the living things in our garden, trees give the impression of being the strongest, sturdiest and the most likely to survive the vagaries of Mother Nature. The life expectancy of most trees far eclipses that of us humans, and in actual fact certain types like sweet chestnuts, oaks and yews can live and continue to grow happily for several hundred years.

Despite all this, trees are certainly susceptible to unfavourable weather conditions, and in addition to the risk of falling branches and tree limbs, when confronted by certain conditions trees can even fall down completely, causing lots of damage. The primary enemy of, and danger to trees, is high winds, and with the increasing frequency of extreme weather events and severe storms this type of damage has become more and more common in Fenny Stratford. Other problems can be heavy winter snow, and saturated soil during flooding or prolonged periods of rain.

To trim and remove any dead, dying or excessively long branches that may cause an issue in severe weather conditions, it is recommended that you get a qualified Fenny Stratford tree surgeon to check out your trees fairly regularly.

To stop bigger trees getting struck by lightning, and to safeguard nearby buildings and property which could be vulnerable to side-flashes ("jumps"), it is also a good idea to install copper conductors, lightning rods, or other lightning protection systems. Trees can be damaged, seriously weakened, or even killed by a lightning strike, they can be burned to the ground, split in two, or left susceptible to disease, pests or decay. For those of you who feel that lightning isn't all that common, there are approximately three hundred thousand lightning strikes in the United Kingdom annually.

Ask your local Fenny Stratford tree care specialist what they can do to protect your trees from being damaged by storms and lessen the chances of major consequences should an unstable tree fall down as a result of extreme weather. Plant And Grow Trees For An Eco Friendly World

If we look at annual figures, anywhere between three and six billion trees are being cut down across the globe. The fact is that the commodities that are made from trees are needed for our day-to-day living. For example, paper is utilized both in the home and workplace and timber is used in the building of homes. It is possible to act to save our forests even though we have to accept that a lot of the things produced from trees are essential.

Arbor Day was created with the intent that we must all be planting trees on that day although in reality this has had little impact. The truth is, trees are not being planted by the majority of the population. If each one of us could plant a tree, it would make a big difference.

The worldwide population is likely more or less in the 7 billion mark. However, you can never be sure of the precise figures for this. Nonetheless, we could replace the trees that are lost each year if each one of those people did actually plant a tree on Arbor day. We are aware that this is not going to happen.

Plant a Tree

So, planting trees is something you must consider if you are concerned about the air we breathe and the Earth. And I don't mean to merely go out once every year and plant a tree. Every month is a good target or why not weekly? The reason is because someone must make up for all those individuals using our resources but refuse to plant a tree for whatever reason.

Figures suggest that anywhere up to 15 million trees are planted on Arbor Day. Based on that, we still need to take that number up by a further 5 billion. Regrettably, things are not improving.

Whereas individuals need to make the effort to plant trees, I have an idea that may resolve this once and for all. What could actually take care of this problem is if each and every wood business or tree farmer, by law, had to plant two saplings for every tree they chop down, so our tree issue wouldn't be an issue anymore.

However, until someone has the presence of mind to make this a reality, we are left to take care of replacing the trees ourselves. And it will not take that much for us to replace the tree population every year. If each and every month, around 10% of people worldwide could plant a tree, that would make up for the numbers being cut down per year. Annually, this would equal to the planting of about 7 billion trees. Easentially, this gives us an extra one billion trees and will go a long way to restoring the levels that are actually required.

And so for anyone who desires to make a positive difference to our world, go plant a tree. Again, it just takes 10% of the total number of people in the world to start making a difference. And you can be one of those people.
